Davis MC5 National Convention Riot---Davis, the bassist of an american rock band, MC5 and the member of The 1968 Democratic National Convention Riot, has died of liver failure in February 2012 at the age of 68.
MC5 is an American rock band from Lincoln Park, Michigan, formed in 1964.

The original band line-up consisted of vocalist Rob Tyner, guitarists Wayne Kramer and Fred Sonic Smith, bassist Michael Davis, and drummer Dennis Thompson.

The group formed in Lincoln Park, MI, 1964, played local sock hops, performed at protest of Democratic National Convention, Chicago, 1968, signed with Elektra Records, and released LP Kick Out the Jams, 1969, signed with Atlantic Records, and released Back in the U.S.A., 1970, and High
Time, 1971; disbanded, 1972.

Democratic Party was held at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago, Illinois, from August 26 to August 29, 1968.

Because Democratic President Lyndon Johnson had announced he would not seek a second term, the purpose of the convention was to select a new nominee to run as the Democratic Party’s candidate for the office.

After Chicago, the Justice Department meted out conspiracy and incitement to riot charges in connection with the violence at Chicago and gave birth to the Chicago Eight, which consisted of Abbie Hoffman, Tom Hayden, David Dellinger, Rennie Davis, John Froines, Jerry Rubin, Lee Weiner, and Bobby Seale.
Demonstrations were held daily during the trial and were organized by the Young Lords and the local Black Panther Party led by Chairman Fred Hampton.
