Rick Perry drops 2012 campaign for president, endorses Newt Gingrich

Texas Gov. Rick Perry ended his campaign for president Thursday morning and endorsed Newt Gingrich.
“I believe Newt is a conservative visionary who can transform this country,” Perry said.
Making what he called a “strategic retreat,” the Texan obliquely referred to Gingrich’s checkered personal life just hours before an interview with the former House speaker’s second wife was to speak out in a TV interview.

“Newt is not perfect, but who among us is?” said Perry.

Citing his Christian faith, Perry said of Gingrich: “I believe in the power of redemption.”

Perry kept an upbeat note as he ended his campaign. He talked about his plan for jobs, his commitment to conservative principles, his time in the Air Force and his roots in Paint Creek, Texas. He thanked his staff, supporters and family throughout the event.

Perry made the case against Barack Obama — and without mentioning him by name, Mitt Romney, too, saying he wanted the president to have the “heart of a conservative reformer, the ability to rally and captivate the conservative movement and the courage to tell the Washington interests to take a hike if it’s what is best for the country.”

“I began this race with a sense of calling — I felt led into the arena to fight for the future of this country,” Perry said. “I feel no different than I did then, knowing the calling never represents a particular outcome, but a journey that tests one’s faith and character.”

Perry added, “Now the journey leads us back to Texas, neither discouraged nor disenchanted, but instead rewarded by the experience and resolute to remain in the arena and in the service of a great nation.”

“I’m not done fighting for the cause of conservatism,” Perry said. “As a matter of fact, I have just begun to fight.”

Gingrich will be hoping the move gives him a boost as tries to consolidate conservative support ahead of Saturday’s primary, aiming to unite the voters who had been splitting between him, Perry and Rick Santorum.

Gingrich has been assiduously lobbying Perry officials in recent days, POLITICO has learned. The former House speaker has repeatedly texted Perry manager Joe Allbaugh.

Sources confirm Gingrich and Perry met privately yesterday to discuss the exit and endorsement. Both attended the Personhood USA anti-abortion presidential forum in Greenville on Wednesday night.

Perry, however, did not make the decision about exiting the race until the morning.

But the discord within the Perry campaign was evident even as the candidate prepared to drop out. Top officials in Texas said they were unaware of his intentions and as late as this morning said they genuinely didn’t know whether he was still running.

Gingrich did not attend the Perry press conference, but at a separate event, praised Perry and said he was “very honored and very humbled” to have the support.

“He’s been a great patriot. He understands the mission of defending freedom,” Gingrich said at a Beaufort town hall.

Gingrich said he spoke with Perry Thursday morning and asked him to head a 10th Amendment enforcement group. He’s asking him to reach out to governors and lawmakers to develop legislation to strengthen the states’ rights.
Michelle Bachmann
michelle bachmann - In November 2009, this blog was established with the purpose of seeking to enlist Michele Bachmann to run for president in 2012. At the time, very few people dreamed that Michele Bachmann would run or that she would have a prayer of becoming the Republican nominee.

Well, today Michele Bachmann announced that she is formally entering the race for the presidency in 2012. Not only that, but she is absolutely surging in the polls. The more America sees of Michele Bachmann the more they seem to like her. Most of the other Republican presidential contenders have seemed very hesitant to stand up for conservative values, but Michele Bachmann has shown over and over that she is not afraid to take on Barack Obama head on.
When the liberal media attacks her viciously it just seems to make her stronger. It is going to take someone with a strong spine to defeat Barack Obama in 2012, and that is exactly what Michele Bachmann has. America is facing some very troubled times right now, and it is going to take a strong leader to turn this country back in a positive direction.

The following is video of the speech that Michele Bachmann gave in Iowa to announce that she is formally entering the race for president. As you can see, she is full of energy and she is ready to give everything she has to win in 2012....

Kris Humphries booed at Nets game
Kris Humphries booed at Nets game - Kim Kardashian's ex Kris Humphries booed AGAIN as his New Jersey Nets are defeated by Clippers,If Kris Humphries thinks it's going to be easy to put his 72 day short-lived marriage behind him, he better think again.

Last night the 26-year-old New Jersey Nets player was heckled and booed for the second time during a NBA game against the Clippers at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.
Everytime Kris got his hands on the ball, the crowd would scream out scathing chants to the towering basketballer.
'During every possession of his game, Kris was booed,' a source told Hollywood Life. 'When he took the foul line everyone started chanting, 'Prenup!"'
To add insult to injury, Kris's team lost against the Clippers, in a match which saw him get a foul in the second half.
Mean-spirited: Everytime Kris got his hands on the ball, the crowd would scream out scathing chants to the towering basketballer
He did however score 14 points for his team.
'Kris had a respectable performance today, but the crowd didn’t give him any respect,' the insider added. 'When he fouled out everyone started shouting, "Get out of L.A.!"'
The Los Angeles Clippers defeated the New Jersey Nets by the final score of 101-91.
The heckling comes as Kris also got booed when he made his first return back to the court back in December.
Putting on a brave face: Kris managed to flash several smiles during the night
He received a harsh welcome back to the court as he was booed and jeered by a 20,000-strong crowd.
In the end the estranged husband of Kim suffered a double blow after his team lost 88-82 against New York Knicks in a pre-season game at Madison Square Garden.
He had played six scoreless minutes of the second quarter, staying on the bench in the fourth as chants of 'We want Humphries! We want Humphries!' broke out.
Sidelined: Kris also spent some considerable time on the bench
'I felt like Rudy,' Humphries said afterwards, in reference to the beleaguered movie sports character of the 1993 movie of the same name.
Meanwhile it has emerged that Kris's televised proposal to former wife Kim was not all it seemed.
According to Radar Online, Kris has told his inner circle of trusted friends that Kim 'planned' exactly how he would pop the question.
'Kim told Kris how, where and when to propose, it was absolutely no surprise to her whatsoever,' a source close to the situation told the website.
Doomed: Kris' marriage to reality star Kim Kardashian ended after 72 days
Kris apparently had wanted to propose to Kim in his home state of Minnesota, but ended up popping the question in the bedroom of her Los Angeles mansion.
The proposal, which took place last May, was captured on reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, shown last September.
The insider added: 'First of all, Kris proposed in the middle of the day, and he had to do that because it would create better lighting to capture the moment.

Nerves: Kris's romantic proposal was shown on reality show Keeping Up with the Kardahsians, but now it is being alleged that it was all planned by Kim
Kim looked so surprised but she knew it was happening. She was in full hair and make-up, as she always is on the show.
'Kris wanted it to be very intimate and romantic, but all of his ideas were shot down by production officials and Kim.
The source said: 'Kim told him the paparazzi would ruin the special moment if it were to take place in a public setting, like the beach, which he had also considered. How romantic could it be with three camera crews?'
Surprise? After the rose petals spelled out his intentions, Kris got down on one knee to a 'surprised' Kim
The proposal showed Kris painstakingly spelling out 'Will You Marry Me' in Kim's room.
And when Kim walked into her bedroom to find Kris down on one knee with his proposal spelled out in front of him in rose petals she told him 'You're crazy,' to which he replied: 'You're perfect.'
Kim was initially speechless, but when Kris opened the ring box to reveal an enormous $2million diamond she immediately blurted out 'Oh my God, yes.'

Glamourous: Meanwhile Kim put on a glamourous turn at on of the Golden Globes' after parties over the weekend
The reality star's mother Kris Jenner even helped plan the proposal, dubbing it 'operation pumpkin.'
Kim famously filed for divorce from Kris after just 72 days after their 'fairytale' California wedding which took place in August.
The latest allegation comes after reports surfaced that other elements in the hit reality show are staged.

kim kardashian family magazine launch

kim kardashian family magazine launch - The Kardashian family are reportedly planning to launch a magazine about themselves and their lives. The Kardashians are reportedly planning to publish their own magazine.
The reality TV family are said to be close to signing a deal with American Media Inc. - who currently own numerous publications, including Star, National Enquirer and Shape - for their own print media outlet, which would feature heavy involvement from sisters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney and their mother Kris Jenner, though an independent editor would be appointed.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: "This is a Kardashian idea. They have been reaching out to several media outlets."

The plan has come in for some criticism, with rival publishers arguing it can give the family further control over their media coverage.
One unnamed competitor said: "Now the Kardashians can spin their own stories in print."

It is believed the magazine could launch this spring.

The Kardashian family are not the first reality TV stars to plan their own magazine.

Last September, British former glamour model Katie Price launched a self-penned one-off publication called Katie,

Announcing the venture, she said: "Everyone has an opinion of me whether good or bad. But this is a chance to get my opinions across! I'm the chief editor, writer and picture editor so I've written all the features and chosen the photos myself.

"Over the years I've been interviewed in the press hundreds of times and usually get asked the same boring questions - most of the time about plastic surgery and men, yawn - so I'm excited to show a side of me that you don't usually get a chance to see in the mags."
Kris Humphries not suing Kim for $10 million

Kris Humphries Not Suing Kim Kardashian Over E! Show Portrayal - Credit: Donald Bowers/Getty; Marianna Massey/WireImage, During their 72-day marriage, Kris Humphries made plenty of money as Mr. Kim Kardashian — which might explain why the 26-year-old NBA player has no intention to sue his soon-to-be ex.

Reports surfaced earlier this week claiming Humphries was planning to file a $10 million lawsuit against Kardashian, 31, because he expects to be portrayed in a negative light on the new season of Kourtney & Kim Take New York.

Despite the claims, sources tell Gossip Cop and TMZ that the out-of-work athlete has “absolutely no plans” to sue the E! reality star. Though he’s worried about his reputation, Humphries understands he has no control over the final cut, a source adds.

The move is somewhat surprising, given that Humphries teased Kardashian about her famous figure in a sneak peek from Sunday’s premiere episode — just one of many incidents where the NBA star belittled his then-wife.

Penny sells for 1.38 million
Penny sells for 1.38 million. Talk about a lucky penny. It was actually worth $1 million.
That was the final bid by an unknown buyer for the one-cent copper coin minted in 1793, the first year the United States produced its own coins. Its sale was one of the biggest deals at the coin show and annual convention of the Florida United Numismatists at the Orange County Convention Center.

The coin was made at the Mint in Philadelphia in 1793, the first year that the US made its own coins. Heritage officials said in a news release that the name of the buyer was not revealed but that he was 'a major collector.' One of the coin's earliest owners was a well-known Baltimore banker, Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr.

'Mr. Eliasberg was nicknamed, "the king of coins" because before his death in 1976 he assembled a collection that consisted of at least one example of every coin ever made at the United States Mint, a feat never duplicated,' Halperin said in the news release. The final bid for the coin last week was one of the largest sales at the Florida United Numismatists coin show and annual convention, which runs through Sunday.

Mr Halperin said a five-dollar gold piece from 1829 also was sold. Mr Halperin said there remain a few hundred 1793 coins in different condition, but that the one auctioned off Wednesday night is rare because it wasn't in circulation.

Officials say it shows no wear on its lettering, its Lady Liberty face or the chain of linking rings on its back.

The news release said the coin is known as a 'Chain Cent' because its chain of linking rings was supposed to represent the solidarity of the states.

The design was changed to a wreath after some critics claimed it was symbolic of slavery.

Mr Halperin said the auction had more than $64 million in transactions. The show runs through Sunday.

While impressive, the 1793 Chain Cent's selling price is nowhere near the record among American coins.

That honor belongs to the 1933 'Double Eagle,' the only legal copy of a coin that never made it into circulation. It sold at a 2002 auction for $7.59 million. The previous record belonged to an 1804 silver dollar that was bought in 1999 for $4.14 million.
