Golf cart runs wild after football game

A runaway golf cart broke free and ran over a group of people at the conclusion of the 5A Divison II State High School Championship game Saturday night at Cowboys Stadium between Spring Dekaney and Cibolo Steele.

Fox Sports Southwest cameras caught the incident; a stadium attendant was driving the cart and picking up orange field markings after the final game of the evening. The attendant got out of the cart to pick up a goal pylon out of the east end zone, but instead of staying parked, the cart took off.

The attendant tried to chase down the cart, but it picked up speed and circled out of the end zone toward the center of the field.

Spring Dekaney head coach Willie Amendola was conducting an interview just above the Cowboys blue star at the 50-yard line. Eight men in a group including the coach, photographers, reporters and a television cameraman were run over by the cart. Amendola was lodged into the passenger seat of the cart and attempted to steer the cart to safety before falling out.

Another stadium employee was able to get into the driver's seat of the cart and bring it to a stop.

Fox Sports Southwest play-by-play man Craig Way reported that Arlington Fire and Rescue came out to the scene to attend to several individuals and that a couple men were carted off the field.

"It was one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen," Way said.Spring Dekaney won the game 34-14, upsetting the defending state champions for its first state title
